Weekly Dose: Ritalin, helpful for many with ADHD but dangerous if abused by those without it

TheConversation: Ritalin is the most common brand name for methylphenidate, a stimulant used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Pharmaceutical company Novartis owns the name Ritalin, but methylphenidate is marketed under other brand names by other manufacturers; such as Concerta which is produced by the company Janssen.

Doping to think better? Better think again, ya dope!

Scimex: Two UK researchers have expressed concern over the current lack of information on the harms and benefits of long-term use of cognitive-enhancing drugs - which can increase a person's concentration and memory - by healthy individuals. They report that the non-medical use of such drugs raises a host of safety and ethical concerns, including side effects and potential abuse, particularly from sourcing on the internet.
