Pliability, Elasticity of Skin Increase Following Wrinkle Treatment with Botox

JAMA: Skin pliability and elasticity improved after treatment with onabotulinum toxin (Botox) for mild facial wrinkles and the effect lasted for up to four months, according to a report published online by JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery. Human skin has three biomechanical features: strength, pliability (the ability to stretch) and elasticity (the ability to recoil).  As people age, these properties change and the loss of skin elasticity appears to be the most prominent. Physicians use a variety of methods to reverse the signs of aging and onabotulinum toxin A injections are among them.

Botox really does keep you looking young

Scimex: Botox injections don't just weaken muscle activity to stop wrinkles from forming, but also make your skin more supple and improve elasticity, Canadian scientists have reported. The researchers say the changes were observed around mild wrinkles on the face and mimic those of more youthful skin, but that they only last for around four months.

How Botox toxin can escape into the central nervous system

Queensland: New research might bring a frown to even the most heavily botoxed faces, with scientists finding how some of the potent toxin used for cosmetic surgery escapes into the central nervous system.
Researchers at The University of Queensland have shown how Botox – also known as Botulinum neurotoxin serotype A – is transported via our nerves back to the central nervous system.
Botox – best known for its ability to smooth wrinkles – has been extremely useful for the treatment of over-active muscles and spasticity as it promotes local and long-term paralysis.

Botox to Improve Smiles in Children with Facial Paralysis

JAMA: Injecting botulinum toxin A (known commercially as Botox) appears to be a safe procedure to improve smiles by restoring lip symmetry in children with facial paralysis, a condition they can be born with or acquire because of trauma or tumor, according to a report published online by JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery.
