Hormone replacement therapy review finds increased risk of blood clots and stroke

NHS: "Women on HRT pills should be aware that there is a small chance of an increased risk of blood clots and possibly stroke," BBC News report. This story is based on an update of a review on the effects of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on the risk of heart and blood vessel diseases (cardiovascular diseases).
The updated results supported their previous findings that HRT did not reduce the risk of deaths from any cause or from cardiovascular causes during follow-up. However, it did increase the risk of stroke and blood clots (for example deep vein thrombosis – DVT).

Hormone replacement therapy increases ovarian cancer risk by small amount

NHS. UK: “HRT nearly doubles the risk of ovarian cancer,” The Daily Telegraph reports. While this may sound alarming, the actual increase in risk for individual women is small, because ovarian cancer is rare.
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) uses synthetic versions of hormones to relieve symptoms of the menopause, such as hot flushes. Concerns have been raised that HRT could also increase the risk of cancers associated with hormones, such as breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
