INTRODUCTION
Inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis) is the
most common chronic condition for which a patient seeks the advice of a
physician in the United States. There are about 30 million patient
visits per year pertaining to sinusitis, but the cause of the condition
remains unclear. Nasal polyps – known as chronic rhinosinusitis with
nasal polyposis – are a sub-category of sinusitis that represents
roughly two to five percent of patients with sinusitis.
