Copenhagen: Using the intestinal hormone GLP-1 in obesity
treatment prevents the loss of bone mass otherwise frequently associated
with major weight loss. This is the finding of a new study from the
University of Copenhagen, Hvidovre and Glostrup Hospital. According to
the researchers behind the study, the results may have a significant
bearing on future obesity treatment. Rapid weight loss leads to a loss of bone mass and an increased risk
of bone fractures. New research shows that treating obesity with the
GLP-1 hormone helps prevent loss of bone mass in addition to having a
number of positive effects on the formation of new bone and on blood
sugar levels. Only good, independent and reliable information about health from experts.

Needed for the hole in the head
Sidney University. Australia: A biomedical engineering team based at the University of Sydney has
developed a new low cost method for producing bone replacement implants
for severely damaged skulls. The group worked with a Sydney
neurosurgeon to create the new 3D printing technique that enables
clinicians to produce a patient-matched implant in a matter of days
rather than several weeks.

Bone Regeneration Enhanced by Use of Mussel Adhesive Proteins
Postech University. Korea: Mussels
stick to rocks because its protein has strong adhesive properties. This
protein has been used as a binder for bodily wounds and surgery. An
engineered mussel glue protein, a promising functional binder for the acceleration of bone substitute-assisted bone regeneration, has
been developed by the joint research team of POSTECH and Korea
University Anam Hospital, which can be used in teeth implants.
