Landmark genetics study offers new hope for heart patients
NSW University. Australia: A
landmark genetics study published today offers new hope for patients
with dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart
progressively enlarges, resulting in cardiac failure.
Dilated cardiomyopathy
American Stroke Association: Dilated or congestive cardiomyopathy (DCM) is diagnosed when the heart is enlarged (dilated) and the pumping
chambers contract poorly (usually left side worse than right).
This condition is the most common form of cardiomyopathy and accounts for approximately 55–60% of all childhood
cardiomyopathies.
